Classification of HSS sections

HSS sections are divided into two types in terms of forming method: hot rolled and cold rolled. Header HSS sections have higher yield and final strength than hot-rolled type, and this issue is more noticeable in the corners of the section. This is due to the cold operation and the strain hardening phenomenon in the steel behavior curve.

HSS (produced by modern manufacturing) advantages Vs. other structural steel sections

  1. Better strenght-to-weight ratio
  2. Stronger in torsion
  3. Best for columns due to sy,,etry and material placement
  4. Better weldin qality
  5. Useful in lightweight construction and better perfomance against earthquacke forces
  6. Useful in space structures

FAQ

01Can HSS sections be used in structures according to Article 10 of the National Building Regulations of Iran?

Yes. In fact, HSS sections are one of the most widely used structural components around the world and are recognized by all steel structure design regulations.

02Have global standards such as ASTM approved this section? If yes, in which standards and topics?

Yes. Production of these sections by cold rolling method can be used with any of ASTM-A500, ASTM-A1085 or EN-10219 standards.
